  1. Trim & File Nails Regularly:
  • Trim and file nails after bathing as they are soft at this time.
  • A sharp manicure clipper or scissor can be used for filing or trimming nails.
  • The nails are first trimmed straight across and then the tips are rounded in mild curves.
  1. Keep Nails Clean & Dry:
  • The nails should be properly cleaned and dried.
  • If your nails are unclean and wet, it will cause fungi, bacteria and other germs growth under fingernails.
  1. Clean Nail Tools:
  • Clean nail implements before using these.
  • Nails or cuticle get infected with the transfer of bacteria and other harmful microbes from the dirty tools.
  1. Apply Hand Cream:
  • Hand creams should also be applied after dish or sloth washing etc.
  • Gently rub hand cream on areas like hands, nails and mainly cuticle area.
  1. Moisturize Nails & Cuticle Area:
  • Hand lotion should be applied on nails and cuticle also.
  • Before going to bed, a little moisturizer can also be rubbed on nails and cuticles.

  • Cotton-lined rubber gloves should be wore during several activities e.g. washing dishes, gardening, or using harsh chemicals.

  1. Apply Polish Or Ridge Fillers Coating Outside Nails:
  • Outside of the nails, coat with a nail polish or ridge fillers.
  • This way, nails become protected from splitting and breaking.
  1. Apply Clear Thin Polish:
  • A thin coat of clear nail polish can be applied on nails.
  • It helps to lock-in the moisture into the nails sufficiently.
  1. Wear Sunscreen:
  • Wear a suitable sunscreen on your hands too, whenever required or when going out in sunlight for longer time period.
  • Sunscreen protects hands, nails and cuticles from sun damage.
  1. Treat Ingrown Nails:
  • When the edge of nail grows into surrounding skin fold, it is known as ingrown nail.

Don’ts – Natural Caution Tips To Take Care Of Nails:


  1. Avoid Long Nail Soaks:
  • Nails and cuticle become weaker if you soak it in plain water or in water mixed with any type of detergent.
  • Try to wear cotton-lined rubber gloves during every day activities that involve use of detergent or water.
  1. Don’t Misuse Nails:
  • Instead of tools, do not use your fingernails for activities including pick, wrench, poke or pry etc.
  • Misusing nails in such acts can cause nail damage as well as nail infection.
  1. Avoid Nail-Polish Remover Over-Use:
  • A minimal quantity of nail polish remover should be used.
  • Avoid too much use of nail polish remover or nails and cuticles.
  • Use those nail polish removers that are acetone-free because acetone causes nail drying.
  1. Don’t Pull Cuticle Too Much:
  • Only that portion of cuticle should be trimmed which starts lifting away from the nails.
  1. Don’t use toluene or formaldehyde containing nail products:
  • Avoid using nail products that contain toluene or formaldehyde as these ingredients can cause harm not only to your nails and cuticles but also to your body system.
  1. Don’t Avoid Cuts:
  • Do not avoid any small cut or tears to nails or cuticles.
  • Use a proper disinfectant for anti-sepsis of it.
  1. Don’t Pull Off Hang-Nails:
  • Avoid pulling the half hanging nails as this can lead you to tear and damage living tissues as well.
  • Hangnails are trimmed carefully by leaving the cuticles in intact form and un-tampered as much as possible.
  1. Don’t Use Non-Sterilized Nail Tools:
  • Never allow any manicurist or even yourself to touch your nails or cuticles with the nails implements that are sterilized properly.
  • If you do so, it can cause serious nail infection.
  1. Avoid Fingernails Biting Or Cuticles Picking:
  • These bad habits can damage your nails as well as cuticles.
  • Bacteria or fungi can easily penetrate via a slight cut alongside the fingernail to cause infection.
  1. Don’t Overlook Nails Or Cuticle Infection:
  • Never avoid any infection if you see it growing on your nails and cuticles.
